- 4. + Problems Kyobo was crippled by a systems crash resulting in grave financial losses. Kyobo’s legacy system was undependable with regard to speed, stability and reliability. Kyobo’s retail trading system was unsteady, lacked constant availability and had inadequate fault-tolerance. Kyobo was plagued with an inability to search and update operations data. The information could not be effectively organized nor stored leading to waste and unneeded redundancy. Kyobo’s fixed income asset management arm required real-time qualitative and quantitative information but fell short of it. - 8. + Performance In 2009, Kyobo Securities needed to construct a high-performance system to be accessed by retail financial outlets for trading new financial products. The company decided to implement an in-memory DBMS (IMDB) in order to achieve optimal performance and the speed. At that time, they considered two options for implementing the IMDB: Oracle TimesTen, a memory-only database, and ALTIBASE HDB, a hybrid database that can run in memory-only, disk-only, and hybrid modes. Equipped with a flexible hybrid architecture for both in-memory and on-storage options, industry standard database features, data types, large reference installations and outstanding technical support, Altibase was an easy choice. In 2009, Kyobo Securities implemented their new financial product trading system using ALTIBASE HDB Version 4 in in-memory DBMS mode, and their business is thriving on that base to date. - 9. + Performance In 2011, with ALTIBASE HDB’s comprehensive benefits to their financial product trading system, Kyobo Securities decided to deepen their relationship with Altibase by implementing their new securities trading system using ALTIBASE HDB on an IBM AIX platform. The company’s application developers implemented the new trading system based on ALTIBASE HDB Version 5. As illustrated in the architectural diagram below, the system accesses Korea Exchange Servers in order to obtain real- time securities price information, and supports client connections using a custom gateway application. ALTIBASE HDB was deployed across 6 server nodes, and the custom gateway application provided the load balancing functionality for an average of 120 simultaneous client sessions. While delivering extreme speed, ALTIBASE HDB utilized only 50% of CPU, resulting in significantly lower resource consumption.
