History • Commenced Feb 2007 • Initial suggestions from Silvia Pfeiffer and help mostly John Ferlito – many thanks!! • 2008 - felt site was messy - split into two sites Sept 2009 • Technology Transactions Pty Ltd exists! Changed name to www.tmt-transactions.com • Moved to Robot Parade mid 2010 ($60/month for 3 sites) – gave me theme and editing features not offered by wordpress.com, more control, sites backed up, “human” support service • Tried Freelancer.com resource for “backlog” posting work in 2009 (went OK) and then again in 2011 (didn’t work) • Retired as a client by Robot Parade Feb 2013! Moved to Dreamhost (multi-site/network of 3 sites, $100pa) Aussie alternatives seemed a lot more expensive? • Robot Parade moved the sites for me (thank goodness!)
- 3. Dreamhost http://dreamhost.com/partners/wordpress/ • Good. Competitively priced. • Powerful, fully featured. • Support very responsive but not designed with end users in mind? Answers assume a level of techo knowledge. • Recommend (and need!) a support middle person ? Dreamhost recomended www.webapphelp.com (?)
- 4. Wordpress Setup • Multisite install / shared plugins • Use Twenty Eleven theme (Haven’t moved to Twenty Twelve as I like revolving headers & don’t know how to re-implement). Waiting for Twenty Thirteen (?) • Major plugins: – Tablepress by Tobias Bäthge – recommended! – SEO by Yoast (Joost de Valk) - implemented (but not using?) – Akismet for spam – Feedburner – Google Analytics – DBCache Reloaded – Wptouch – WP Widget Cache – Have used Mailchimp/Newsletters but now rely on (manual) LinkedIn/Twitter postings
