Altibase empowered KT(South Korea’s largest telecommunication service provider) with the ability to analyze and react to data in real-time, increasing customer loyalty.
ALTIBASE® HDB™ is the only Hybrid DBMS in the industry that combines an in-memory DBMS with an on-disk DBMS, with a single uniform interface, enabling real-time access to large volumes of data, while simplifying and revolutionizing data processing.
Altibase is provider of In-Memory data solutions for real-time access, analysis and distribution of high volumes of data in mission-critical environments.

CASE STUDY FOR TELECOMMUNICATIONS
3. + Overview
Altibase
Altibase is provider of In-Memory
Database solutions for real-time
access, analysis and distribution of
high volumes of data in mission-
critical environments.
Korea Telecom (KT)
KT is South Korea’s largest
telecommunication service provider.
Summary
Altibase empowered KT with the ability to analyze and react to data in
real-time, increasing customers loyalty.
In-Memory Database Solution
4. + Problems
KT was plagued by inefficiencies in its core information system.
Since all of KT’s processing, detecting, analyzing and controlling
functions were entangled in a single system, dysfunction became
the norm. This gave rise to three critical issues.
The current system configuration was unstable when high volumes
of data were being processed. KT experimented with potential
solutions that comprised stability with the hopes of increasing
overall performance. Unfortunately, the tradeoff resulted in an
unstable system that did not perform well either.
Overloaded and bogged down by multiple processes tied into a
single system, KT was stymied. Expanding the system for better
performance and stability meant splitting the processes.
Upgrading the system for this type of expansion was difficult to
implement and came with a hefty price tag. The total related costs
were untenable.
In-Memory Database Solution
5. + Solution
KT implemented ALTIBASE HDB In-Memory DBMS into its
Abnormal Traffic Detection, Analysis and Control System1.
ALTIBASE HDB filled KT’s need for speed, utility, reliability and
stability – all with a single resolution.
In-Memory Database Solution
1) KT installed ALTIBASE HDB as hybrid database on an IBM
P590Q system with 4 x 1.5 GHz and 16 GB of memory.
6. + Results
KT was empowered with the ability to analyze data in real-time and react
accordingly.
KT has profited from ALTIBASE HDB’s Hybrid architecture capitalizing on in-
memory storage for frequently accessed, current data while keeping less
active, historical data on-disk.
KT’s reputation, bolstered by unilateral increases in customer satisfaction,
loyalty, attraction and retention, is at an all-time high.
KT was able to move away from batch-processing to Real-time processing.
ALITBASE HDB’s built-in replication feature and resultant Active-Standby
system, has allowed KT to deliver real-time and non-stop service.
The number of active servers has been reduced to 4 from over 20 servers.
System resource usage is down by 65%.
By using the parallel architecture model, on-demand system expansion has
become a reality.
