4. TAKING KOLTSOVO
AIRPORT GROUND
OPERATIONS TO NEW
HEIGHTS
Safety and efficiency are of prime importance to Koltsovo airport, one of the
top international airports in Russia. Over 4.3 million passengers pass
through its terminals each year, travelling to 116 destinations around the
world.
Instant, reliable, wide-area communication is needed to co-ordinate
operations between Koltsovo’s ground services staff inside the terminals
and on the runway. The decision to upgrade their analogue two-way radio
system to a MOTOTRBO digital radio network with IP Site Connect has
ensured seamless connectivity throughout the airport.
The addition of a SmartPTT dispatch software solution has simplified the
management of communication between multiple subscribers and provides
centralised control of the radio network.
The MOTOTRBO system has enhanced operational efficiency and
personnel safety by ensuring that staff can keep in contact at all times.

DISPATCH SOLUTION IN
SWISS TUNNEL
The need for reliable radio coverage for inter-group communications and to
assist with worker safety at its Ceneri Base Tunnel site has seen Swiss
company AlpTransit Gotthard deploy a MOTOTRBO™ system with
Neocom’s TRBOnet Enterprise application.
The 30.8km tunnel is being built through the Alps providing rail links for
goods and passenger trains and helping to reduce the travel time between
Zurich and Milan by up to 1.5 hours.
The system comprises some 200 portable digital radios and 11 repeaters
connected via optic fibre, which are housed in the service hatches for
maintenance and emergency access between the two tunnels. Each
repeater is equipped with four antennas for 360 degree coverage and signal
strength has been over-catered for to ensure continuous communication in
the event of a repeater failure. The TRBOnet system includes two
Dispatcher modules; one installed at the security centre about 50m from the
tunnel entrance and the other at the headquarters in Lugano. Read the full

10. BELORUSNEFT
MIGRATES TO
MOTOTRBO™ &
ACE3600
To improve communications among personnel, obtain critical data and
manage equipment remotely across its oil fields in south-east Belarus, oil
and gas production organisation Belorusneft is migrating its Motorola
SmartNet system to a MOTOTRBO™ network using new ACE3600 remote
terminal units (RTUs) to provide direct and seamless connectivity. In
addition, they are using an option board solution that allows older type
RTUs to connect to the MOTOTRBO system.
Formed in the mid-1960s to develop Belarus’ oil and natural gas deposits,
Belorusneft’s operations today include gas processing plants, storage
facilities and the wholesale distribution of oil, liquefied gas and mixed
biofuel products.
The company’s analogue systems – used at three sites - were unable to
handle future communication needs, so MOTOTRBO was chosen for its
ability to provide increased network capacity, better output and allow
existing analogue devices to be retained in the interim.

The move to MOTOTRBO and the option board solution
has proven to be highly successful and we have plans to
replace all the legacy SmartNet equipment across the three
sites with MOTOTRBO technology in the near future. In
addition, by introducing a 7-channel Capacity Plus system
at each site, we’ll have a fail-safe solution in the event of a
repeater failure.

CONNECTS CONGO
EXPLORATION SITE
Mining Projects Development (MPD) Congo SA was granted an exploration
licence in May 2007 to evaluate iron ore deposits in the Republic of Congo’s
Lekoumou District situated in the south west of the country. Known as the
Zanaga iron ore project, the mine is expected to produce 45 million tons of
iron ore concentrate a year once it reaches peak capacity.
To establish a communications infrastructure that would provide reliable,
high performance voice and data connectivity between staff at the remote
exploration site and its head office in Pointe Noire, MPD Congo has
installed a solar-powered MOTOTRBO™ digital two-way radio network with
IP Site Connect. Motorola’s point-to-point fixed wireless broadband
technology provides high-speed links for uninterrupted voice and data
communications throughout the vast coverage area. In addition, TRBONet
enhances dispatch operations and facilitates the tracking of supply vehicles
travelling between the sites.
The network has improved operations by allowing MPD Congo to monitor
the delivery of supplies to the exploration site, enhance staff safety and
provide voice, data and video conferencing services in an area with virtually
no infrastructure.

SOLUTION FOR
SIBERIAN OILFIELDS
Maintaining good communication with work teams and ensuring their
personal safety is the key priority of oil industry executives, especially in
regions where extreme weather conditions mean having to work in
temperatures ranging from -45º C during the winter months to a scorching
35º C in summer.
For this reason, the Mokhtikovskoye and Eguryakhskoye oilfields in the
Khanty-Mansiysk region of western Siberia have implemented
MOTOTRBO™ digital mobile radio with SmartPTT GPS-based dispatch
system. The deployment replaces an analogue two-way radio system and
boost operational communications between management and operating
crews while allowing for the monitoring of radio users across a coverage
area of some 25km.

13. SAFETY
UNDERGROUND
Salt Union mines rock salt at its Winsford, UK facility. In 1998 Compass
Minerals, the mine’s owner, opened DeepStore, a records storage facility to
take advantage of the 1.8 million square feet of space excavated by the
mine. It could house every paper record ever created in the UK and is ideal
for storage – the temperature is a constant 14°C and humidity easily
controlled.
Both Salt Union and DeepStore used analogue two-way radios to manage
communications. However, the system was unreliable and, with safety of
critical importance, Compass Minerals looked for a new two-way radio
solution. After an extensive review of options, they decided to deploy a
MOTOTRBO™ two-way digital radio system.
Chosen for its durability and versatility, the system provides an array of
innovative safety features to safeguard teams, backed with crystal clear,
reliable audio, which is helping to enhance productivity. The technology is
giving users their confidence back to rely on two-way radios to keep them
safe.

technology. We have to protect miners operating in a dusty
salt seam on the one hand and, on the other, look after
teams working in the DeepStore archive with tunnels and
rooms that stretch over a huge area. With MOTOTRBO we
found the answer, installing the first system of its kind in
the UK: we have linked 16 repeaters underground using IP
to provide clear audio, with the facility to track teams
continuously and send override messages to effect
evacuations. The system safeguards our people and is
improving productivity too.

14. MOBILE SOLUTION
HELPS RAPID
RESPONSE TEAMS
To assist teams addressing potential crises at nuclear power plants across
the country, the Ukraine’s emergency and technical centre (SS ETC) has
commissioned an all-terrain mobile emergency and rescue communications
solution that can operate independently, using multiple communication
technologies. The SS ETC is a division of the state enterprise National
Nuclear Energy-generating Company (Energoatom).
An integrated, vehicle-based solution was developed using MOTOTRBO™
digital two-way radio technology, Motorola’s MW810 Mobile Workstation
and the dispatcher application VITEX®
TRBO.
Local rescue teams can now be monitored and managed using the
dispatcher software while vital data can also be sent to control centres, both
in-vehicle or remotely. This is done via an existing nationwide analogue
radio network or alternative communications media - such as GSM (GPRS)
or satellite - should the need arise.

15. EUROPE’S LARGEST
OIL PORT MIGRATES TO
MOTOTRBO
Ust-Luga Oil owns and operates Europe’s largest oil terminal. It offloads
both black fuel oil and light oil products delivered by trains, stores the
product, and then supplies incoming oil tankers calling at its port on the
Baltic sea. It handles around 30 million tons of oil annually.
The terminal has to coordinate the turnaround of sea tankers efficiently and
quickly; reliable voice communications are therefore essential both to
optimise operations and protect employees working in this demanding
environment. However, the company’s previous analogue system was
failing to provide robust communications due to problems with capacity,
coverage and call quality. With these issues in mind Ust-Luga Oil deployed
a MOTORBO digital two-way radio system with Cupol software.
Built in just 3 months the system provides reliable and crystal clear voice
calls. The enhanced Cupol software dispatch features are helping to
improve safety with the facility to track employees in real time using GPS
and record all voice calls to monitor and improve incident response.

story: EnglishWe work on a large, noisy and heavy industrial site
where the danger of major incident is ever-present. Our
people therefore must have clear and instant commu-
nications available to be warned of incidents and react

them quickly coordinate the turnaround of sea tankers.
We’re delighted to have moved to the MOTOTRBO™ digital
radio system. It provides robust and crystal clear calling
across the site and, with features such as GPS tracking
giving us visibility over people’s locations, and the option
of using ATEX radios, it’s purpose-built to improve

To increase safety and maximise productivity at its new €800 million factory
in Kecskemét, Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Ltd issued a tender
for an integrated two-way radio network and patrol control system. The area
where the plant is located is 400 hectare and it has the capacity to
manufacture over 100 000 vehicles a year.
The large buildings and extensive metal machinery used at the Mercedes-
Benz factory can pose a challenge for wireless telecommunications, as they
interfere with radio transmissions.
A MOTOTRBO digital radio system with TRBOnet Enterprise dispatcher
software to manage communications between security guards, the on-site
fire department and maintenance teams was installed. Using a single DR
3000 repeater with full redundancy to cover the entire plant, integrated voice
and data communications is delivered to Mercedes-Benz’s security,
maintenance and emergency response personnel. Radio users can be
tracked and monitored in real time with a TRBOnet Indoor system, which
uses beacons to locate personnel quickly and easily in an emergency.

SAFETY AT PORT
ATLANTIQUE LA
ROCHELLE
Port Atlantique La Rochelle (PALR) is the sixth largest French port and the
leading port for wood and paper pulp imports in France. As the only deep
water facility on the country’s Atlantic seaboard able to accommodate over-
Panamax vessels, PALR handles more than eight million tons of cargo
each year and is also a key port of call for numerous cruise ships. This
mammoth undertaking places huge demands on the port’s security teams
who have to patrol a vast area around the clock.
To improve team communications and track personnel movements from a
central location, the port authority has upgraded its existing two-way radio
network to a MOTOTRBO digital solution with DMRAlert®
personnel
tracking software application.
The decision to implement MOTOTRBO provides PALR with a robust and
easily expandable platform that offers increased capacity, improved voice
communications due to clearer audio (particularly useful in noisy areas such
as harbours), the ability to integrate third-party data applications and deliver
up to 40% longer battery life for extended work shifts. Thanks to the
personnel tracking application, safety has improved through the ability to
pinpoint security personnel in real time throughout dedicated areas indoors
and outdoors.

26. POLICE ON PATROL
WITH MOTOTRBOTM
AND
TrackDMR DISPATCHER
Responsible for the protection and security of 46,000 inhabitants across the
34sqkm of Kutno, the Municipal Police had been using Motorola analogue
radios for 17 years and in December 2013 decided to upgrade to
MOTOTRBO including the TrackDMR dispatcher application.
Equipped with DP4401 portable radios for their foot patrols and DM4401
radios mounted in all their patrol cars, Kutno Police have the benefit of built-
in GPS used to track their location in real time. DP2400 provide reliable
communications for non-critical operations.
The location of police patrols can now be pinpointed on a digital map by
means of GPS positioning, to improve response times, optimise the dispatch
of patrol cars and enhance personnel safety. Communication is also more
secure, with the ability to separate users and assign encryption keys so
groups can communicate privately. The new system enhances the efficiency
of patrols and facilitate daily operations.

After the transition to digital radio technology, we
experienced a significant improvement in communication
and the quality of the transmitted voice. Thanks to the
dispatch application, we are able to determine the position
of patrols and dispatch the team closest to an event. The
additional advantage of digital technology is to ensure the
confidentiality of correspondence. Personal data, such as
names, social security number or intervention operations
are not overheard by unauthorized persons.

PROTECTION CHOOSES
MOTOTRBO™
Paris Civil Protection (PCP) is part of the FNPC, the National Federation of
Civil Protection. The FNPC is a not-for-profit French association of
emergency volunteers who set up first aid stations at large events, train the
public in first aid and raise awareness of public safety issues. In Paris the
volunteers also work in close collaboration with the emergency services.
When it comes to public safety, reliable communications are vital. This is
why PCP decided to update its former analogue radio network to the latest
digital technology.
PCP deployed a multi-channel MOTOTRBO network currently composing 3
DR 3000 repeaters and over 150 MOTOTRBO radios. The new system is
delivering numerous key benefits for PCP, including reliable coverage,
greater capacity, increased functionality and exceptional sound quality. User
feedback has been excellent.

28. CO-ORDINATING
MEDICAL RESCUE
ACROSS POLAND
Founded in 1949 as a section of the Polish Red Cross, SCRMITS delivers
vital medical rescue services to over one million inhabitants across the
Kielce district in the Świętokrzyskie province in central Poland - an area of
approximately 11.7 km². When SCRMITS considered upgrading its aging
two-way radio system, the company decided to deploy a MOTOTRBO IP
Site Connect solution.
The reasons for the move to MOTOTRBO digital technology were multifold:
the vast improvement in signal range and voice quality, the need to deploy
dispatch applications for fleet monitoring, the ability to use both analogue
and digital radios on the same network, the encryption and extended
features on offer and a logical migration path for future-proofing
communications.
The implementation of the MOTOTRBO network improved the quality of
voice communication and provided extended functionality for SCRMITS
emergency teams across the region. This has resulted in faster ambulance
response times, service improvement across the region and enhanced
performance of medical rescue teams.

29. HELPING
FIREFIGHTERS BE
THEIR BEST
South Africa’s West Coast District Municipality’s (WCDM) disaster
management services facility provides firefighting services to a scattered
population across a rugged territory stretching over 32,000 km2 – a huge
challenge with wildfires being a frequent occurrence.
WCDM previously used the cell phone network to coordinate operations but
cellular services were often unavailable in remote areas and mobile phones
were prone to break down in the demanding firefighters work environment.
A MOTOTRBO digital radio network was installed across the region
providing continuous, reliable, secure and rugged communications. The fire
brigade’s response time has improved – dispatchers can send a single call
to multiple firefighters to alert them to an incident. Costs are reduced as
mobile call charges have been eradicated. Firefighters’ radios are more
robust and reliable, ensuring they have continuous access to the lifeline of
communications. And with the ability to track teams using GPS technology
built into their radios, dispatchers can quickly send help if a firefighter
encounters a problem.

MOTOTRBO network delivers. It has eliminated network
black spots and provides instant and continuous voice and data
communications with GPS tracking. Now, instead of making
individual calls to firefighters to alert them to an emergency, we
can send out group messages; this makes our disaster
response more effective and efficient. The equipment has
earned he trust of users too: our communications are a lifeline
and the radios have become trusted companions with not one

PERSONNEL TRACKING
SOLUTION WITH
MOTOTRBO™
DMRALERT®
IN-TRACK
Meadowhall had previously used a manual personnel monitoring system to
plot the location of its staff. This combined with an analogue two-way radio
system, which had several coverage black spots, making it difficult to
communicate at times.
With their strong focus on safety and high standards of customer service,
Meadowhall deployed a MOTOTRBO Capacity Plus system integrating a
personnel tracking solution. They purchased a fleet of MOTOTRBO DP
3600 hand portable radios for management, security, technical and
cleaning employees to use across the centre. Each radio has been fitted
with a DMRAlert®
IN-TRACK option board. This interacts with wireless
beacons that have been installed discreetly throughout the site.
The new system enables the shopping centre to handle the high volume of
voice and location data and to locate staff throughout the centre quickly and
accurately while also meeting their needs for reliable one-to-one and group
communication.

35. CONSERVING ITALY’S
NATURAL HERITAGE
Rangers at Italy’s Gran Paradiso National Park are tasked with the
management and protection of some 710 km2 of alpine terrain between the
Aosta Valley and Piedmont regions. Communication between patrol teams
is critical to ensure their safety as they traverse the park’s vast and often
inhospitable terrain. So to provide reliable, wide area communications, the
park has installed a simulcast network based on MOTOTRBO technology,
with dispatch, GPS localisation and voice recording applications.
The combination of feature-rich voice and data communications on a single
MOTOTRBO system with 16-key encryption gives the Gran Paradiso
National Park a customised solution that meets its needs for privacy and
reliability. The simulcast network only uses a single frequency, reducing
licence costs and providing an economical and wide area solution with
continuous roaming and handover. The BPG COM dispatcher software
makes it easier to manage calls, text messages and to co-ordinate
responses in an emergency situation. MOTOTRBO’s ability to communicate
in both analogue and digital mode allows the park rangers to send a 5-tone
distress call via the region’s analogue Mountain Rescue channel to
summon assistance in an emergency.
And staff safety has been further enhanced through the ability to remotely
access the GPS co-ordinates of each radio, so the rangers can be located
quickly in an emergency directly from another portable radio.

36. MOTOTRBO™
IMPROVES SAFETY FOR
SKI RESORT LONE
WORKERS
While tourists are relaxing after their fun day’s skiing, the Montgenèvre ski
resort’s piste maintenance teams work through the night to ensure the ski
runs are in optimal condition for the following day. Personnel often have to
work alone and sometimes in exceptionally harsh conditions, with the risk of
avalanches and exposure. The resort wanted to introduce new measures to
increase safety for its lone workers.
Montgenèvre adopted the DP4401 Portable with integrated GPS, a Man
Down option board and DMRAlert GPS Tracking solution. The data
collected on the radios is transferred to the ski resort’s management
system, CGX Mountain®
, and allows Montgenèvre to precisely track its
personnel throughout the ski area. Now, if a worker has an accident and is
not able to trigger a manual alarm, an automatic alarm showing the position
of the person in trouble is generated and sent out via emergency call, SMS
and email.
The new system has more than halved accident response time, as rescue
teams can accurately pinpoint the scene of the incident on the mountain.
Safety for lone workers has significantly improved.

37. MOTOTRBO SECURES
THE PALACE OF
VERSAILLES
The Palace of Versailles is a highly-prized heritage site that requires strict
security to control the large crowds of tourists and safeguard its collection of
eighteenth century art and furnishings. The Palace needed a versatile
communications solution that could offer multiple applications in real time,
including the ability to locate and track personnel both indoors and across
the vast grounds, log guard patrols and record voice conversations. And the
system is required to function in areas which are difficult to reach - such as
the tunnels which run for five kilometres under the fountains in the palace
gardens - and extend across multiple buildings throughout the site.
After just six months of installing the MOTOTRBO solution with DMRAlert
and Talk Recorder, the Palace of Versailles has benefited in many ways,
most notably improved reliability, widespread coverage as well as more
cost-effective communications. Personnel safety has improved through the
ability to pinpoint the location of staff and track radio users throughout
dedicated areas indoors and outside. This is achieved with a combination of
RFID and beacons as well as GPS. With the RDAC solution, the network
can be controlled remotely, allowing a quick reaction to any problems that
may arise. Management of the system is further facilitated by software that
enables supervisors to see which radios are in use or deactivated. They also
have the ability to override communications and broadcast voice or SMS
messages in the event of an emergency.

MOTOTRBOTM
The Sailing World Championships are the most important regatta organised
by the International Sailing Federation. Held every 4 years, the event was
hosted in Santander, Spain and brought together all Olympic sailing classes
in a single competition.
The ISAF team required a two-way radio system to efficiently coordinate
races and safely manage the event and decided to install a MOTOTRBO
system.
The robust radios – with built-in noise cancellation technology - provided
crystal clear voice calls cross 15 talkgroups with voice services also
available to officials’ boats across an area of 90km2
. In addition, the system
provided reliable data communications to support race-specific applications
including voice recording and GPS location. The instant and reliable
communications helped the organisation team respond immediately to any
issues and ensure the safe running of this prestigious international event.

40. KEEPING TRAINS
RUNNING
Strictly scheduled maintenance is essential to running a reliable railway
service and it must be done with minimal disruption to daily operations.
Keeping trains moving smoothly through the depot and meeting stringent
safety regulations requires meticulous co-ordination between drivers,
maintenance teams, operations staff and management. A dependable,
dedicated communications system is a prerequisite to getting the job done
and this is achieved with MOTOTRBO Capacity Plus digital radio
technology.
With Capacity Plus, engineers, drivers, fuelers, cleaners, operations staff,
maintenance and management teams now have their own separate talk
groups, ensuring that everyone can have access to voice and data
communication when they need to without disturbing other groups or having
to wait for a channel to become available. And to ensure that staff can keep
in contact throughout the 12-hour work shift without worrying about running
out of talk time, IMPRES batteries provide automatic, adaptive
reconditioning to optimise the battery lifecycle. The TRBOnet Enterprise
dispatch software application, makes it possible for dispatchers to
communicate with subscribers via a personal computer, identify which
groups are communicating at any given time and which radios are turned on
or off, improving the monitoring and management of radio traffic. It also
enables Bombardier Transportation to record all voice communications for
safety and training purposes.

MOTOTRBO™ LINKED
CAPACITY PLUS
Stagecoach Bus Manchester was the first company worldwide to deploy the
MOTOTRBO Linked Capacity Plus system to improve its operational
communications. The digital two-way radio system makes it possible to
communicate throughout a wide area by linking adjoining sites across an IP
network. The company operates nearly 700 buses across the greater
Manchester area and relies on reliable, ubiquitous radio coverage to
maintain communication with four control centres.
The MOTOTRBO Linked Capacity Plus system provides essential features,
including: call dispatching and logging, group calls, telephone interconnect to
allow calls to be made from the MOTOTRBO radios and any fixed line or
mobile telephone across the operation, and Transmit Interrupt (to override a
call) for the instant delivery of emergency communications.
With seamless roaming, drivers can focus on the task at hand without
having to adjust their radios as they travel throughout the coverage area –
ensuring the safety and security of both drivers and passengers. The foot
pedal enables handsfree communications which is essential for drivers.
Voice and data integration in a single system eliminates the need for
separate network controllers and allows the company to be more efficient by
using key applications, such as TRBOnet Enterprise to respond quickly to
driver requests and direct bus crews.
