Town Lake Pedestrian Bridge May 6- 12 Construction Photos
The bridge consists of four spans, one over each rubber bladder. Each is 228 feet long, weighs 165,000 pounds and is 34 feet high. A total of 32 cables are used with each span.
Bridge Facts: Each span consists of an upper arch and a lower arch that cross, the bridge deck and the connecting cables. A sprinkler system will hang from the bridge to cool the rubber bladders that hold back the waters of Town Lake. Killer Shade of Phoenix is providing canopies throughout the bridge designed to match the architecture of the Tempe Center for the Arts and to cool pedestrians as they cross. The majority of funding for this $5 million bridge comes from federal grants.
The bridge connects the Tempe Center for the Arts on the south bank of Tempe Town Lake, to the relaxing pace of the more natural north bank.
The City of Tempe will provide information about the progress of this project through every means possible, including media opportunities, our website, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. You can also get all your City of Tempe information at our online newsroom Need more?Call 480 350-4311.
