Tempe Town Lake Pedestrian Bridge
- 1. Tempe Town Lake Pedestrian Bridge Construction Progress Photos
- 2. These photos show the progress of the Tempe Town Lake Pedestrian Bridge as it is being constructed. The photos range from April through the completion of the project, expected in August. Each week, more photos will be added.
- 3. This bridge allows people to cross Town Lake safely without the distraction of vehicles. It also cools and shades the rubber bladders that make up the Town Lake dam system.
- 4. The bridge consists of four spans, one over each rubber bladder. Each is 228 feet long, weighs 165,000 pounds and is 34 feet high. A total of 32 cables are used with each span.
- 7. Bridge parts: Each span consists of an upper arch and a lower arch that cross, the bridge deck and the connecting cables. A sprinkler system will hang from the bridge to cool the rubber bladders that hold back the waters of Town Lake. Killer Shade of Phoenix is providing canopies throughout the bridge designed to match the architecture of the Tempe Center for the Arts and to cool pedestrians as they cross. The majority of funding for this $5 million bridge comes from federal grants.
- 11. Work on this bridge is being done by PCL Construction, a Tempe company, and Stinger Welding of Coolidge. All steel for this bridge is American made.

It’s a great way for those who are attending performances to take a quick stroll to the middle of the lake for a unique view.
